About the Campaign

The world of Elaris is a realm where magic is not merely a tool but the very fabric that weaves existence together. The land itself hums with arcane energy, and even the air carries the subtle crackle of latent power. Rivers glow faintly under moonlight, coursing with liquid mana, while ancient forests pulse with the whispers of spirits long forgotten. The sky is alive with drifting motes of energy, remnants of past enchantments and celestial events that still shape the course of history.

Magic in Elaris is as natural as breathing, but it manifests in different ways across the land. Some civilizations have mastered the art, shaping grand cities where glowing ley lines pulse beneath the streets. In these arcane metropolises, scholars weave spells as effortlessly as artisans carve wood, and magical constructs roam alongside citizens. Other regions are wild and untamed, ruled by primal forces, where storms have a will of their own and the earth itself rises in defiance of trespassers; here, small villages and towns struggle for survival and independence, surviving by their wits and luck.

Yet, such abundance of magic comes with its perils. Eons ago, the world nearly tore itself apart in an event known as The Unraveling, when a war between the Gods split entire continents and birthed the vast and unpredictable Veilstorm Wastes. Even now, echoes of that calamity linger in unstable rifts, ancient curses, and arcane anomalies that wander the land, their power unpredictable and often devastating.

Churches are seen as major protectors in this troubling time, their faith serving as a shield against the dangers of an unpredictable world. Those who devote themselves fully to the divine are granted powers beyond the average, high ranking church officials wield miracles that defy even the deepest arcane knowledge. Unlike mages who harness magic through study and will, the faithful channel their power through devotion, drawing strength from celestial patrons, ancient deities, and the very essence of divine purpose.

Each major church in Elaris holds a unique place in society, their influence extending far beyond simple temples and shrines. The Sanctum of the Radiant Dawn, (followers of the Everlight), serve as healers and warriors against the creeping corruption left by the Veilstorm Wastes. Their clerics walk the land as beacons of hope, their golden magic burning away curses and restoring those afflicted by arcane anomalies. In contrast, the [[Order of the Veilkeepers]] watches the world with a cautious gaze, believing that balance must be maintained between the mortal and the mystical. They patrol the ruins of shattered ley lines and forgotten temples, ensuring that dangerous magic does not fall into the wrong hands.

Not all faiths shine with holy light. The Cathedra Obscura, a feared sect, claims that only through embracing the effects of the Wastes(Veilstorm Wastes) can the world avoid another catastrophe. Their priests wield gifts of shadow and foresight, whispering prophecies that speak of an impending reckoning. Feared by some, revered by others, their presence is often an omen of change. The Cathedra Obscura and The Sanctum of the Radiant Dawn often find themselves at odds, and an invisible war is fought between the two nearly constantly.

Beyond organized faiths, lone wanderers known as Saints walk the wilds, touched by unknown divine forces. Some say they were granted their power directly by the gods, while others believe they are echoes of a forgotten pantheon, their purpose unclear even to themselves. Their very presence alters the course of fate, for better or worse.

As the world of Elaris stands at the precipice of another great change, the churches serve as both shields and swords, guiding mortals through the storm. But whispers among the faithful grow stronger, some claim the gods themselves are stirring, their voices more insistent, their demands more urgent. If the divine are preparing for something, what does that mean for the world itself?
